Mark Wright undergoes surgery to have tumour removed from armpit

Mark Wright has undergone surgery to have a 12-centimetre tumour removed from his armpit.

The former TOWIE star took to Instagram on Wednesday to share photos of himself in hospital following the surgery, including a topless mirror selfie in which he showed off the stitches underneath his armpit as well as a graphic photo of the tumour beside a ruler.

In the lengthy caption, Mark revealed he discovered a lump in his "breast/armpit area" and went to the doctor, who called it "a fatty lump that doesn't need any treatment" so he left it. However, the lump continued to grow over time and it started to bother him so he went to a specialist for a second opinion.

"He was certain after seeing an ultrasound scan that it was a LIPOMA (a BENIGN soft tissue tumour) however with it being rather large, he had a tiny bit of concern that it has/could turn into a SARCOMA (a cancerous malignant tumour)," he explained. "However he was not 100% either way so to be more sure I had an MRI. From the result of the MRI, still this consultant did not want to rule out the worst because of the speed and the size of the growth."

The reality star moved on to a sarcoma specialist, who saw his scans at the end of November and scheduled him for surgery on Wednesday to have "this little g*t removed".

"His fast and incredible turnaround was due to the fact he did not want to leave it any longer and wanted it out to prevent the rare risk of a LIPOMA turning into a sarcoma over time," he continued. "The tumour will be sent off for further testing just to be 110% sure but this top doctor is certain from his incredible experience that we have done the job and there is nothing sinister to worry about. So I'm all good."

The 34-year-old concluded his post by urging his followers to get checked if something doesn't feel right with their body, adding, "Nothing in life is more important than your health and well-being. Get checked, check yourself and make sure you take good care of yourself."
