Maroon 5’s Mickey Madden has announced he is taking a break from the band following his arrest on domestic violence charges.

The bass player, 41, was arrested at the end of June.

In a statement issued to media outlets including People magazine, Madden said he was now taking a “leave of absence” from the group.

The statement said: “I have some things that I need to deal with and address right now and so I have decided to take a leave of absence from Maroon 5 for the foreseeable future.

"During this time, I do not want to be a distraction to my bandmates. I wish them the absolute best."

Madden was arrested last month after an alleged domestic violence incident and posted bail the same day.

The identity of the alleged victim has not been revealed.

At the time, a spokesperson for the band said: “We are deeply devastated by this disappointing news. As we learn more, we are looking at this very seriously. For now, we are allowing all of the individuals involved the space to work things through.”

Maroon 5 started life as a band called Kara’s Flowers before changing their name.

Other members include Adam Levine, Jesse Carmichael and James Valentine.

The US band has released six studio albums, with their latest, 2017’s Red Pill Blues, going to number two in the US and number 12 in the UK.

The group’s best known singles include She Will Be Loved, Moves Like Jagger and Payphone.
