The Marshall Emberton is a small, portable wireless Bluetooth speaker that makes an unfeasibly big sound.

Available for £129 from John Lewis, it’s styled after Marshall’s famous live music speaker stacks, but has the added benefit of being compact enough to pop into a bag or backpack.

This is handy, as it’s perfect to take to the park or garden party. An IPX7 rating means you don’t need to worry if it gets caught in a downpour and The Emberton can weather the storm.

Marshall has genuine credibility when it comes to playing loud. Its iconic script logo is instantly recognisable, and Marshall speaker stacks have backed the world’s biggest bands.

Its signature sound is beloved by music lovers the world over. The Emberton may be the smallest Bluetooth speaker in the Marshall line-up, but true to form, this mighty portable knows how to rock.

Best played with AC/DC rather than Adele, it loves to be played loud, which makes it a lot of fun to listen to. It does a lovely job with guitars and vocals.

It may be compact, but the soundstage is impressively wide. Marshall uses something called True Stereophonic multi-directional signal processing to spread audio wide, and it’s surprisingly effective.

Behind the grille are two 50mm full range drivers, backed up by a couple of passive radiators which help reinforce bass. The speaker boasts 2x 10W of well-spent amplification.

Battery life is impressive at 20 hours. A fast 20 minute charge will see you good for at least five more hours.

Not only is its design is authentically iconic, it’s nicely finished too. Small wonder the speaker has already taken home a Red Dot Design award.

What the reviews say

  • “Love, love, love - whole family now wants their own.”

  • ”This little thing is incredibly powerful for its size - ticks every single box. Sounds amazing playing a wide variety of music. I adore it.”

  • “I bought this for my husband and he loves it. It looks amazing, very retro.”

  • ”Haven't taken outside for a spin yet, but in my flat the sound is dreamy. ”
