The Masked Singer US has announced an interesting rule change ahead of season four.

As the reality competition resumed filming yesterday (Thursday, August 20), it took to its official Facebook page to encourage super fans to register for the chance to "witness all-new performances and vote for your favorites". You can do so here: fox.tv/AtHomeAudience

According to a recent report published by Deadline, only those specially selected to be in the virtual at-home audience will have a say in which anonymous celebrities make it through each round.

While other similar programmes such as Dancing with the Stars, American Idol and The Voice have long had viewers assist their respective judges when it comes to which contestants get the boot, the first two seasons of The Masked Singer US were pre-recorded, meaning those tuning in couldn't get involved.

Instead, the live studio audience could influence the outcome. Due to COVID-19 however, the show is likely to forgo such a big production this time round.

Just a short while after Night Angel (AKA Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kandi Burruss) was crowned the season 3 winner, executive producer Chris Plestis teased what's to come in season four.

"I can't tell you what that is; we're working on it now. But if all goes to plan it will be incredible. It will be a major improvement," he told TV Guide, making sure to keep coy on the specifics.

"Safety is paramount. We're working on it as we speak — right now, I'm looking at mock-ups of some of the costumes. We need to be there so people can disconnect from everything else happening."

The Masked Singer US airs on FOX. Its UK equivalent airs on ITV.
