Mastercard’s Ann Cairns to chair The 30% Club

Mastercard Vice Chairman Ann Cairns has been appointed co-chair of The 30% Club, a UK-based organisation that campaigns for greater representation of women across all levels of global businesses.

Cairns will be joining Brenda Trenowden CBE, global chair of The 30% Club, to co-chair the campaign for the next year. Trenowden will then move into an advisory role and Cairns will take over the position of global chair.

Cairns said in a statement: “The 30% Club has made tremendous strides in ensuring that companies understand the value of diverse voices at their organisations, but as the challenges of doing business become more intense in this interconnected world it is time to step up the activity to ensure we have the best and brightest minds at the boardroom table and beyond."

Launched in 2010 by Dame Helena Morrissey to push for better female representation on FTSE company boards, The 30% Club is now a global campaign to drive change in gender diversity. In the UK, 276 chairs and CEOs have signed up to set a 30% target for women in board and senior-level roles at their companies.

About 31% of FTSE 100 board members are now women, up from 12.5% in 2010, according to The 30% Club’s analysis.
