Matthew Wright and wife Amelia say stalker threatened to 'snatch' baby daughter

Watch: Matthew Wright and wife Amelia open up about terrifying stalking ordeal

Matthew Wright and his wife Amelia have opened up about their “horrendous” ordeal with a stalker who threatened to take their baby daughter Cassady.

Last week saw Michelle Ranicar, 53, admit to one count of stalking to cause serious alarm or distress between November 2018 and May 2019 at Wood Green Crown Court.

The Wrights welcomed their baby daughter in January 2019 following an eight-year battle to have a child that included several rounds of failed IVF treatment and an ectopic pregnancy.

Matthew, 55, told Lorraine Kelly on her daytime show on Monday that it started with Ranicar regularly appearing in the audience for The Wright Stuff.

“I was friendly to everybody in the audience, but I was unaware that she started to develop notions that we had a relationship," he said.

Amelia, 42, recounted how Ranicar had approached her at a charity event while she was heavily pregnant, stating she was "shocked to the core" when the stalker remarked: "Women your age are more likely to have a stillbirth."

The couple said Ranicar managed to find their address despite their attempts to avoid being followed and that she turned up at their home a few days after the incident at the charity event.

Amelia said: "I was on my own and she was shouting through the letterbox, ‘I’m going to find the maternity ward where you are and I’m going to wait outside for you and the baby'.”

The harassment continued following Cassady’s birth.

“Just after Cassady had been born, she turned up on the doorstep," Amelia said.

"I was on my own the first time. She was trying to push her hand through the letterbox saying, ‘I want the baby, I want the baby. Give me the baby.’

“Can you imagine what that would do to a new mum?”

Matthew said his wife had been deeply affected by the experience, before going on to praise the police for their assistance.

“I didn’t want to go out of the house, because she said she wanted to snatch the baby,” Amelia said.

“You can imagine how you just live in fear and terror and you don’t want to go out.”

She stated she was "still shaken" from the experience and that she would have involved the police from the first incident if she could’ve done things differently.

“It’s left me emotionally scarred,” she said.
