Meghan Markle’s 40th birthday: Duke and Duchess of Cambridge lead well wishes

Meghan Markle’s 40th birthday: Duke and Duchess of Cambridge lead well wishes

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on Wednesday joined the Queen and celebrities in wishing Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, a happy 40th birthday.

Alongside a picture of Meghan during her 2018 tour of Australsia with Prince Harry, the official social media accounts of the Cambridges posted: “Wishing a happy 40th birthday to The Duchess of Sussex!”

Minutes later, the Royal Family Twitter page posted a similar message with a series of images of Meghan while she was a working royal. “Wishing The Duchess of Sussex a very Happy Birthday today!”

Vogue Editor Edward Enninful, who Meghan worked with to create a special issue in 2019, also wished the Duchess a happy birthday.

In a follow up post, Enninful added: “To celebrate the 40th birthday of my friend Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, I am contributing 40 minutes of mentorship to support women reentering the workforce. In the past two years, tens of millions of women around the world have departed the workforce, while also shouldering the brunt of unpaid labor, including schooling and caring for family members.

“If you can, please join me and commit 40 minutes to community service or mentorship. Together, we can contribute to a global wave of compassion and positive change.”

Meghan was reported to be celebrating the milestone birthday with Harry and the couple’s two children Archie, two, and Lilibet, who was born in June, at their Montecito mansion in Santa Barbara, California. Some reports suggest she will have an intimate party in the grounds of their home with about 65 closest friends and family.

It comes following a difficult year for the Sussexes and the Royal family.

While the couple have had some success in signing lucrative deals, thought to be worth well over £100 million, with Spotify and establishing their charitable foundation Archewell, much has been written about their decision to step down as senior royals for personal and financial freedom early last year – dubbed Megxit.

The couple sat down for their much-anticipated television interview with Oprah Winfrey in March and left the royal family in crisis with their version of events that led to Megxit.

The couple painted the monarchy as a racist and uncaring institution in the shocking interview.

Meanwhile, Harry is to pen his own tell-all memoir and has promised to write an “accurate and wholly truthful” account of his life.
