Meghan Markle and Prince Harry make poignant speech at music festival in New York

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry appeared at the Global Citizen Live concert in New York City on Saturday (25 September). The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a guest appearance at the music festival in Central Park, which has a focus on climate change and vaccine inequality.

The couple who recently welcomed their first daughter, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, in June, made their first public appearance since her birth on Wednesday (22 September). The new parents visited One World Trade Center to see New York Governor Kathy Hochul and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, his wife and son. Harry, 37, and Meghan, 40, also paid their respects at the 9/11 memorial.

Attending the Global Citizen Festival in NYC on Saturday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a poignant speech at the 24-hour concert.

They looked happy and healthy as they spoke at the event, with Harry wearing a sleek black suit with a crisp white shirt, while his wife wore a new season Valentino shift dress that was embellished with beads, embroidery and floral accents.

Meghan took to the mic and eloquently explained: 'There's so much we can do today that can get us closer to ending this pandemic, and that's why we're all here.

She continued: 'We're able to be here tonight because the most brilliant scientists, researchers, frontline workers and selfless public health leaders have risked their lives to protect our global community. They are our humanitarian heroes.'

Passing the mic back to her husband, he explained how he and Meghan have been talking to experts since the start of the pandemic to see how they can do their part. 'This week, we sat with independent world health the leaders to further understand how to get closer to vaccine equity and ending this health crisis,' Harry said.

Harry spoke some more before Meghan chimed in with: "Every single person on this planet has a fundamental right to get this vaccine. That's the point, but that's not happening.'

The couple who are now based in Los Angeles continued to speak about vaccines throughout their joint speech, where they passed the mic to and fro while each delivered a sentence.

The couple were glowing as they made a rare public appearance, and we are so happy that they're happy.
