Mel C rescues Spice Girls memorabilia from online auction

Watch: Mel C panicked when thousands of pieces of memorabilia ended up on eBay

Mel C has rescued thousands of pieces of Spice Girls memorabilia after they were put up for sale on eBay.

The trove of personal items, which included the trademark tracksuits she wore as Sporty Spice, demo tapes, photos of the band and home videos, was listed online for starting bids as low as £0.99, prompting the singer to move to halt the sale.

According to The Sun, the seller claimed that Mel's memorabilia came from an "abandoned storage room" she once rented in Swindon, Wiltshire, on which payments had allegedly not been kept up with.

A representative of the star told the newspaper that having stopped the auction, she has now reacquired the items, saying: "Melanie has got all of her stuff back."

Also listed for sale were a hard drive kept by the star and a cassette tape intriguingly labelled, "David Beckham," after the soccer star husband of her bandmate Victoria Beckham.

Pictures posted by the eBay seller alongside their listings showed boxes of cassettes and VHS tapes, along with framed limited edition photos, as well as tracksuit tops and bottoms, T-shirts.

Mel reunited with her old Spice Girls colleagues Emma Bunton, Geri Horner, and Mel B, for a U.K. tour back in 2019, but Victoria declined to take part. It was the first time they had performed together since the closing ceremony for the 2012 London Olympics.

Plans to take the reunion tour global were cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
