Melania Trump has bid farewell to the White House in a public message, days before she leaves her role as First Lady of the United States.

The Trumps will leave the White House on Wednesday, as Joe Biden and Dr Jill Biden are inaugurated in front of the US Capitol following November's presidential election result.

On Monday, Melania released a video via her official FLOTUS Twitter account to say 'goodbye' to the American people.

'It has been the greatest honour of my life to serve as First Lady of the United States,' the 50-year-old began in her six-minute speech, before calling the last four years 'unforgettable'.

After paying tribute to soldiers, law enforcement, healthcare workers and more, Melania then seemingly addressed the Capitol riots which occurred in Washington DC two weeks ago when a right-wing violent mob, in support of her husband Donald Trump, stormed the congressional building terrifying staff and journalists in the process.

'Be passionate in everything you do but always remember that violence is never the answer and will never be justified,' she said.

While Trump supporters came out in force to respond adoringly to Melania's farewell message, others were less enamoured with the gesture.

Andy Cohen, the Bravo host of Watch What Happens Live, responded to the message with the same slogan that Melania had worn on the back of a raincoat while visiting a migrant children's detention centre: 'I really don't care, do you?'

Others likened it to the recent Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas break up news...

The address came amid reports by CNN that Melania has followed her husband's lead by rebuking tradition and not inviting the incoming First Lady, Dr Jill Biden, for a tour of the White House.

Michelle Obama extended the invite to Melania during the transition from the Obama to the Tump presidency, and Laura Bush and her two daughters Jenna and Barbara also hosted Michelle, Malia and Sasha before Barack Obama formally took office in 2008.

Melania will also not be attending the inauguration ceremony on Wednesday, along with her husband, ending a decades-long tradition.

The outgoing First Lady's four years in the role have been marked with fascination, frustration and support from those loyal to the Trump presidency. Notable moments throughout the four years include the aforementioned coat, her decoration choices for the White House in the run up to Christmas, rare interviews like the one she gave to CNN's Anderson Cooper and the endless speculation over the body language between Melania and Donald Trump.
