Hilary Duff has teased how much her How I Met Your Mother Hulu spin-off will tie into the original series, suggesting we could be set for some big cameos.

How I Met Your Father will see the Lizzie McGuire star take on the role of Sophie who, like Ted Mosby in the original, tells her son the story of how she met his father.

And it seems we could be getting guest appearances from some familiar faces, according to Duff, who opened up about the series during an interview on SiriusXM's The Jess Cagle Show.

"I don't know how much I'm able to say," the actress admitted. "The script was so good, I literally called and was like, 'Please, yes, please have them pick me!'

"I don't want to give it all away, and the script is definitely being changed a little bit. But it does tie in, and hopefully we'll have some fun guest appearances from the original cast."

Duff went on to reveal that they are planning to film the New York-set series in Los Angeles, noting: "It does take place in New York, which is so funny because we are filming in LA.

"I finished reading the script and called my manager, I'm like, 'Why can't I get a job in LA? Why do all my jobs I get take me to New York?' And she's like, 'I think they'd be willing to film in LA.' So I'm really excited about that."

She further teased: "There's great characters, and I'm going to get to have an on-set family and another TV family, and there's so much opportunity for love stories with this show because its Sophie and three dudes.

"So it's going down that whole rabbit hole of which one was the one, who was the father, and you get to go through all of Sophie's young experience of finding love and dating and what that's like in the modern world.

"So it does tie in, but I don't know how much I can say! Nothing's totally set."

How I Met Your Father is coming from This Is Us co-showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, with How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas executive producing alongside Duff.

How I Met Your Mother is available to watch on Disney+.
