The New York Mets claimed left-handed reliever Brad Hand off waivers on Thursday.

Hand was designated for assignment by the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday after just one month and 11 appearances with the team.

A trade-deadline acquisition, Hand posted a 7.27 ERA with a 1.85 WHIP during his time with Toronto. The 31-year-old was placed on the bereavement list on Aug. 27 and cut from the team four days later.

The Blue Jays sent catcher Riley Adams to the Washington Nationals in return for Hand. Adams has a .341 average and 1.010 OPS over 19 games with Washington.

Hand joins a troubled Mets squad that currently sports a 65-67 record and has recently picked up qualms with its own fans. New York reportedly had interest in signing Hand last offseason, but the lefty ended up taking a one-year, $10.5-million deal with the Nationals instead.
