Michael Jackson's former mansion is up for sale
An extravagant mansion that just hit the market in New York City comes complete with a laundry list of famous former residents, including the artist Marc Chagall, and the late King of Pop himself.
Never known for his restraint when it came to properties - the theme park-esque Neverland Ranch comes to mind - it's easy to see how the elaborate home might have appealed to Michael Jackson.
The Upper East Side townhouse was listed for $39 million (£29.5 million) by its latest well-known resident, billionaire Marc Lasry. The six-storey single family property boasts seven bedrooms, not including the 'staff' quarters, and brims with well-preserved historical features.
The house was built in 1898 upon the commission of the celebrated architect Alexander Welch, and was purchased by a former law partner of President Grover Cleveland.
Today, its original details remain largely intact, including 10 wood-burning fireplaces, oak wood floors, and 'windows of stained and leaded glass and gilt work,' according to the Modlin Group's listing.
In addition, there is a garden, a patio, several balconies, and a roof deck, and the building is just steps from the East side of Central Park.
