Microsoft (MSFT) Outpaces Stock Market Gains: What You Should Know

In the latest trading session, Microsoft (MSFT) closed at $310.20, marking a +1.77% move from the previous day. This change outpaced the S&P 500's 0.08% gain on the day. Meanwhile, the Dow lost 0.56%, and the Nasdaq, a tech-heavy index, lost 4.81%.

Coming into today, shares of the software maker had lost 4.2% in the past month. In that same time, the Computer and Technology sector lost 2.99%, while the S&P 500 gained 0.64%.

Wall Street will be looking for positivity from Microsoft as it approaches its next earnings report date. This is expected to be January 25, 2022. In that report, analysts expect Microsoft to post earnings of $2.29 per share. This would mark year-over-year growth of 12.81%. Our most recent consensus estimate is calling for quarterly revenue of $50.32 billion, up 16.82% from the year-ago period.
