Microsoft has revealed plans to open a Regent Street shop: Jeremy Selwyn

Microsoft is set to open its debut UK shop just a stone’s throw from rival Apple’s flagship London store.

The technology giant is poised to take over the Regent Street space used by United Colors of Benetton when the fashion retailer relocates to a new store later this year.

The computer firm’s UK head Cindy Rose said that, as well as stocking goods, the building will host workshops and training programmes.

Microsoft's Rose added: “We couldn’t be happier to be opening a flagship store in the heart of central London at Oxford Circus, where two of the world’s most iconic shopping streets meet.”

The property is owned by the Crown Estate.

James Cooksey, the director of the landlord’s central London portfolio, said: “Regent Street’s transformation into the world’s most popular shopping destination has been driven by attracting flagships and firsts. We’re therefore delighted to be working in partnership with Microsoft, whose arrival will be another fantastic global brand for our millions of shoppers and visitors.”
