Yahoo Finance Millennials are feeling so old after seeing this dad’s early 2000s ‘time capsule’: ‘I feel like a fossil watching this’
A millennial dad is going viral after showing his Gen Z daughter his early 2000s “time capsule.”
The exchange, which has made some millennials really feel their age, has drawn over 570,000 views on TikTok. The dad, who posts under the username @fernandez_fam, first shared the clip in late March.

His video begins with a shot of him and his daughter, who’s preparing to check out his old-school gadgets.
“My dad wanted to show me all of his millennial goodies from back in the day,” the caption reads.
The “capsule,” which @fernandez_fam keeps inside an old Nike shoebox, contains all kinds of late 90s and early aughts nostalgia — from a Nokia cellphone to a pager to a CD booklet.
The dad also has some newer tech in his collection, including a Motorola Razr flip phone, which debuted in 2005. He has a T Mobile Sidekick, the slide-able cellphone model that was popular during the pre-iPhone years.
In one exchange that commenters found particularly tough to endure, @fernandez_fam asks his daughter if she knows how to use a pager.
“If I was talking to a girl … it’d be like, ‘Oh, she’s thinking about me,'” he says. “So I’d run to a payphone or a landline — do you know what a landline is?”
“Yeah,” his daughter replies.
“What is it?” he asks again.
“Ugh, I forgot,” she says.

Overall, @fernandez_fam’s old tech and his daughter’s reactions made many millennials feel old. According to the Pew Research Center, the term millennial applies to anyone born between 1981 and 1996.
“I feel like a fossil watching this. I had all of these,” one user wrote.
“Not the ‘millennial back in the day’ line,” another added. “This hurt.”
The sidekick will forever be the best phone made,” another wrote. “I wish they brought it back.”
As he clarified in the comments, @fernandez_fam is on the older end of that range. He’s currently 41.
However, commenters were quick to praise his youthful appearance.
“Your dad looks like he’s 20,” one user wrote.
