Mindy Kaling’s Picture of Her Daughter Watching the Inauguration Will Give You All the Feels

Now that Kamala Harris has officially been sworn in as vice president, she's helping to shatter the glass ceiling in so many ways, serving as the first Black and Asian American person—as well as the first woman—to hold the title, making her new role not only just historic, but such a win for representation in so many communities.

One such person feeling proud is Mindy Kaling's daughter, Katherine, who was watching the inauguration of Harris and President Joe Biden on Wednesday, January 20th. Kaling shared a photo of Katherine watching the inauguration on TV as Harris was being sworn in, captioning the sweet shot, "I was at work, but apparently she said: 'Is that mommy? It looks like mommy.' Best compliment I ever got!"

In the caption of her post, Kaling shared a little bit about what that emotional moment meant for her as an Indian American—especially in national politics, a world dominated by white men that so often shuts out or lacks opportunities for underrepresented communities—adding, "It matters. Happy Inauguration everyone."

Kaling has been open about her support for Harris and what it means for her. When Biden announced that Harris was his pick for vice president last August, the Office alum expressed her excitement in a two-part tweet, writing, "Was there ever more of an exciting day? For our entire country of course, but especially for my Black and Indian sisters, many of us who have gone our entire lives thinking that someone who looks like us may never hold high office?"

She continued, "We work so hard and contribute to the fabric of our lives in America, & and now to see @SenKamalaHarris rise to the top like this? It's thrilling!! I am filled with hope and excitement," thanking Biden for choosing her as his running mate.

After Harris and Biden secured their historic win in November, Kaling shared two photos of Harris as an adult and as a child, captioning her post, "Crying and holding my daughter, 'look baby, she looks like us.'"

It's safe to say that the inauguration serves as a full-circle moment for Kaling, her daughter, and for so many girls and women in the U.S. who also see a bit of themselves in Harris as she steps into her most important political role yet. We're still feeling all the emotions, and we know the best is yet to come.
