Vikings CB Jeff Gladney arrested in Dallas after alleged assault on girlfriend

Minnesota Vikings cornerback Jeff Gladney was arrested on Monday in Texas after an alleged altercation with his girlfriend, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Gladney turned himself in to Dallas County Jail on Monday after a warrant was issued for his arrest, and charged with third-degree felony family violence assault. He posted a $10,000 bond, and could face between two and 10 years in prison.

“We are aware of Jeff’s arrest and are gathering additional information,” the Vikings said in a statement, via the Star Tribune. “We take this matter very seriously, as the reported allegations are extremely disturbing.”

Gladney, according to CBS 11 in Dallas, was in a car with his 22-year-old girlfriend on Friday entering an apartment complex. He allegedly became upset about the woman’s text messages and demanded to see her phone before allegedly throwing it out of the window.

Gladney, per CBS 11, then allegedly stopped to get the phone and tried “shoving [her] face toward her phone to try to use the phone’s Face ID to unlock,” and started “… pulling [her] by her hair trying to hold her still in order to get the Face ID to work.”

He then allegedly started hitting her “with closed fists causing pain in the side of her ribs, in the stomach and the back and hitting her open hand across the head.”

Gladney and the woman then reportedly returned to the apartment complex, and he “began strangling [her] by the neck, which impeded her breathing for approximately five seconds,” and “grabbed [her] by her hair while the vehicle was still moving and dragged [her] across the ground.”

The woman eventually escaped and entered a car with unknown passengers, according to CBS 11.

Gladney recorded 81 total tackles and forced a fumble last season as a rookie for the Vikings, who selected him out of TCU with the No. 31 overall pick in the draft.
