Toyota shows 'an engine reborn' with green fuel despite global push for battery electric cars
During a three-hour presentation at a Tokyo hall Tuesday, the car manufacturer giant announced it would offer lean compact engines that also run on so-called green fuels like hydrogen and bioethanol, or get paired with zero-emissions electric motors in hybrids. This comes as many competitors in the auto industry are pushing for fully electric vehicles. China is revving its push for Battery Electric Vehicles, and its own BYD is threatening to outshine Tesla in that push.

A humpback whale was successfully freed from fishing gear following a complex two-day rescue effort that concluded on Thursday, May 23, off Rottnest Island, Western Australia.Melissa Evans, a manager with the Department of Biodiversity in Western Australia, said that after an initial failed attempt to cut the lines, overnight tracking of the satellite-tagged whale allowed the crew to try again the next morning.“With this animal it was quite a complicated entanglement. The line was wrapped around one of the pectoral fins. It also went through the whale’s mouth, and then around the body. Weather warnings have been issued for heavy showers, thunderstorms and a small chance of flash floods, posing a "danger to life". The Met Office issued three yellow warnings for thunderstorms for parts of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland on Tuesday, lasting from midday until midnight. The warning in Northern Ireland is in place from 12pm to 9pm, in England it lasts from 2pm to 7pm, and in Scotland it goes from 3pm to midnight.

Vietnamese electric car maker VinFast is looking at further delaying a planned $4 billion factory in North Carolina, a person briefed on the matter said, as the loss-making company struggles to gain favour with U.S. consumers. VinFast announced in 2022 that it would build an EV and battery factory in the United States with an annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles, seeking to take advantage of the Biden administration's efforts to approve subsidies for EVs made in America. VinFast, which sold fewer than 1,000 cars in North America last year, said in a statement to Reuters it was "conducting a thorough review and evaluation of all aspects of the construction process for our North Carolina factory."
