In Last Thing You Bought, celebrities and tastemakers take In The Know through some of their most recent purchases.

Model Alexis Ren makes an effort to lessen her impact on the environment every day — and her recent online purchases reflect as much.

The model, who recently appeared on In The Know’s podcast “We Should Talk,” shared that a cutting-edge water filtration system, a guide book on living a more “regenerative” life and a kit full of sustainable kitchen products are among her latest online buys.

Additionally, Ren, 23, said she has specifically tried to cut down on buying new clothes, especially online. Instead, she’s been opting for vintage and second-hand clothing to fill out her wardrobe.

“I actually don’t really buy stuff on Instagram, but there are some really cool vintage stores [on the platform],” Ren said. “I’ve been really into second-hand shopping — I’ve been trying to do most of my shopping that way.”

All of these small changes come as the “Dancing With the Stars” alum launches her latest venture, Future Prosperity, a new online platform aimed at curtailing our society’s dependence to plastic.

“I was kind of just like, ‘Our environment should be protected.’ I started reading a lot about two years ago, and I just started to ask the question, What does influence actually mean? Why does it matter if it’s not going to leave something behind that can better the world?” Ren told In The Know. “That’s my perception of what influence is: Leaving a path and a legacy, whatever it is. I strapped on my backpack and went up that hike and, for me — and this is just my perspective — there are a lot of things going on in the world, as we know, but if we don’t have fresh air to breathe and food to eat, we can’t argue about these other semantics. That’s a priority for me.”

Last book you read:

“It’s changing my life: ‘The Regenerative Life’ by Carol Sanford. It’s talking about how we need to transfer the system we’re working in currently and go regenerative — not just through a society lens, but also a spiritual lens.”

Last thing you bought off of Instagram:

“I actually don’t really buy stuff on Instagram, but there are some really cool vintage stores [on there]. I’ve been really into second-hand shopping; I’ve been trying to do most of my shopping that way.”

Last thing you bought that’s now part of your daily routine:

“It’s a water filtering machine. This guy from Japan made it, like, 15 years ago. It’s called Kangen. It filtrates any water, so it treats oxygen into the water. I attached it to my bathroom sink, so I use it to drink and for my face, as well. It’s changed my life. It’s actually crazy!”
