Mom returns to pandemonium after leaving car window open: ‘You have to look at this'

There are some pretty obvious reasons not to leave your car window open — it might rain, the interior can get damaged or someone could steal your belongings.

But here's another, probably less common reason to add to the list: Cats.

That's a lesson Natasha Ryce and her daughter Jess learned the hard way, after the pair returned to their car one day to find it swarming with at least half a dozen crazed, leaping felines.

Jess posted a video of the incident to TikTok, and it immediately went viral, earning more than 8 million views in the past two days. In the clip, Jess approaches her mother's black Pontiac Bonneville as the camera shows flashes of fur bouncing around inside.

Once the camera gets closer, it becomes clear that those fuzzy blurs are actually a group of around six cats. The animals then jump frantically around the car's entire before flying out the passenger window and scattering into the woods.

Jess, who also shared the video on Twitter, told BuzzFeed News that the incident took place at her grandparent's house. The 11th grader was scrolling through her phone while walking to her mom's car when she first noticed the cats.

"I was sitting by the pond with my parents when Jess came running and said, 'Mom, you have to look at this,'" Natasha Ryce told BuzzFeed. "I have never laughed so hard in my life. It was one of those random, once-in-a-lifetime things."

Once Jess realized something was going on, she decided to start recording.

"I was like, 'Is that a cat in the windshield?'" the 11th-grader said. "So I started recording and I snuck up and was like, 'Oh god!' when I saw them all in there and they all stood and looked at me when I got to the door and then they started going crazy."

Natasha Ryce's parents have a large farm, and there are apparently at least 10 cats living on the property. That's in addition to the dogs, ducks, horses and hogs that — thankfully — did not make it inside the vehicle.

The viral moment has earned a positive reaction from thousands of social media users, a fact that Natasha Ryce finds almost as shocking as her encounter with the cats.

"It's mind-boggling to me. We are just regular old working-class people just living in the country," Ryce told BuzzFeed. "All these people are liking and commenting and I'm like, 'What in the world is going on?' It's crazy. We all post stuff every day of our lives but you don't think it's going to go viral."
