Johnson under pressure to allow double jabbed adults to escape isolation
Boris Johnson is facing pressure to change his pandemic strategy for England after Wales confirmed fully vaccinated adults will not have to isolate from August 7.
The Prime Minister has insisted England is “nailed on” from August 16 to allow double jabbed adults to escape isolation if they come into contact with a positive coronavirus case.
But in Wales, First Minister Mark Drakeford has given the go-ahead for the isolation requirement to be removed nine days earlier for some two million fully vaccinated adults.
Sir Keir Starmer questioned why England should have a later timeline, saying this risks creating more pain for families and businesses.
“The Tory government has never been able to explain the logic of their self-isolation rules and has just repeated the same mistakes over and over again,” the Labour leader said.

Pregnant women urged to get Covid jab as majority unvaccinated
England's chief midwife has stepped up calls for pregnant women to get the Covid vaccine as soon as possible.
GP records and Public Health England data suggest that hundreds of thousands have not had the jab, as the number of mums-to-be in hospital with the virus increases.
The Delta variant increases the chance of severe disease, separate data showed.
In the last three months 171 pregnant women with Covid needed hospital care - but none had had both jabs.
In a letter to midwives, obstetricians and GP practices, Jacqueline Dunkley-Bent said healthcare professionals had "a responsibility to proactively encourage pregnant women" to get the Covid jab.

Scarlett Johansson is suing Disney over its streaming release of Black Widow, which she said breached her contract and deprived her of potential earnings.
In a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, the Black Widow star and executive producer said her contract guaranteed an exclusive theatrical release.
Johansson’s potential earnings were tied to the box office performance of the film, which the company released simultaneously in cinemas and on its streaming service Disney+ for a $30 (£21.50) rental.

The UK is facing high winds and storms, with the Met Office warning it "will get worse before it gets better".
As newly named Storm Evert gathers pace, winds of up to 75mph are expected to lash the South West, with coastal gales and rain set to affect parts of the country.
The storm will move across parts of the UK, giving a "wet and windy start" to Friday for the southern and central regions, the Met Office said.
