Most Expensive Apartment Goes On Sale In NY

The most expensive apartment in New York has just gone on the market at \$100m (almost £64m).

With Carnegie Hall, Central Park and Fifth Avenue's designer shops for neighbours, the apartment has room for a butler and chef, and a 360-degree view of New York City.

Spread over three floors (73rd to 76th) and measuring 8,000 sq ft, the penthouse in the CitySpire building will become the most expensive apartment ever sold in the city if it goes for asking price.

Listed by real estate agents Prudential Douglas Elliman, it is reported that Raphael De Niro, the son of actor Robert De Niro, has the exclusive listing on the property, which is owned by Long Island real estate developer Steven Klar.

One particular added luxury is the separate guest or staff apartment on the 72nd floor which can be accessed via a service entrance, and contains a kitchenette, en suite bathroom, as well as a wine store with space for 1,000 bottles.

Adorned with marble, white pillars and swags of gold material with tassels, it also has six bedrooms, nine bathrooms, 135 windows and wraparound terraces circling each floor - the highest terraces in the city.

It is described in the sales listing as "a trophy penthouse... the crown jewel set atop the celebrated CitySpire condominium."

The asking price reportedly is the highest for any New York City apartment currently on the market. The closest is believed to be a six-bedroom penthouse at the nearby One57, under contract for \$90m (£57m).

And in February, Weill penthouse at 15 Central Park West traded hands in a record-breaking \$88m (£56m) deal, according to reports.

CitySpire became its tallest mixed-use building when it opened in 1988. It features amenities such as a full-time doorman, full-service garage, fitness centre, laundry facilities, pool, conference room and a children's playroom and is located at 150 West 56th Street.
