Motiva Port Arthur refinery restarting HCU after repairs-sources

HOUSTON, May 18 (Reuters) - Motiva Enterprises was restarting the 60,000 barrel per day (bpd) Hydrocracking Unit 2 at its 600,250 bpd Port Arthur, Texas, on Monday after completing two weeks of repairs, sources familiar with plant operations said.

HCU 2 was shut on May 4 because of a malfunction and repairs were started. The hydrocracker primarily makes diesel fuel from gas oil produced by a crude distillation unit. Diesel has become a lucrative export for U.S. refiners on the Gulf Coast.

Motiva spokesman Ray Fisher said the Port Arthur refinery was continuing the start-up of a unit on Monday following unplanned maintenance. Fisher declined to identify the unit.

Motiva's Port Arthur refinery is the largest in the United (Shenzhen: 000925.SZ - news) States. Motiva is co-owned by Royal Dutch Shell Plc (Xetra: R6C1.DE - news) and Saudi Aramco. (Reporting by Erwin Seba; Editing by Bernard Orr, Grant McCool)
