Indian skipper Virat Kohli has decided o step down as the T20I captain of the side after the T20 World Cup in the UAE. The upcoming event will be his first and last as captain of India in T20 World Cups. Kohli has led India in three ICC finals but has failed to win even one so far. The upcoming event gives him an opportunity to cap off on a good note.

Giving his opinion on Virat Kohli’s call. Brad Hogg said that it is the right decision and it allows him to focus on the other two formats of the game. He further said Kohli should be given one more chance to lead India in a 50-over World Cup.

“Virat Kohli giving up the captaincy I think is the right move. There is so much pressure on being India’s captain in all three formats. If he does well he is the player of the month. If things are not going well, he is ridiculed left, right and centre. He has relinquished the pressure. I like the way he is going to captain for one more world cup giving him one opportunity to win the world cup there” said Hogg.

The former Australian spinner said that Virat Kohli is focusing on Test cricket and take Indian cricket to newer heights in the format.

“He has realized that he has struggled in Test cricket in the last five series. He has not done well in the last five series. Also people out there saying India pulling out of the fifth Test means that they are not interested in Test cricket. Well this move shows that they care about Test cricket and they want to dominate that format moving forward,” Brad Hogg concluded.

Meanwhile, the BCCI has confirmed that Kohli will be available for selection as a player in the format post the T20 World Cup.

Kohli captained India in 45 T20Is with the side winning 27 out of those. India only lost 14 T20Is under Kohli captaincy while two games were tied and two matches had no results.
