Move Logistics Group's (NZSE:MOV) investors will be pleased with their notable 60% return over the last year

It might be of some concern to shareholders to see the Move Logistics Group Limited (NZSE:MOV) share price down 13% in the last month. But that doesn't change the reality that over twelve months the stock has done really well. In that time we've seen the stock easily surpass the market return, with a gain of 55%.

So let's assess the underlying fundamentals over the last 1 year and see if they've moved in lock-step with shareholder returns.

View our latest analysis for Move Logistics Group

Given that Move Logistics Group only made minimal earnings in the last twelve months, we'll focus on revenue to gauge its business development. Generally speaking, we'd consider a stock like this alongside loss-making companies, simply because the quantum of the profit is so low. It would be hard to believe in a more profitable future without growing revenues.

Over the last twelve months, Move Logistics Group's revenue grew by 5.7%. That's not a very high growth rate considering it doesn't make profits. The modest growth is probably largely reflected in the share price, which is up 55%. While not a huge gain tht seems pretty reasonable. It could be worth keeping an eye on this one, especially if growth accelerates.

It's probably worth noting we've seen significant insider buying in the last quarter, which we consider a positive. On the other hand, we think the revenue and earnings trends are much more meaningful measures of the business. Before buying or selling a stock, we always recommend a close examination of historic growth trends, available here..

What about the Total Shareholder Return (TSR)?

We'd be remiss not to mention the difference between Move Logistics Group's total shareholder return (TSR) and its share price return. The TSR attempts to capture the value of dividends (as if they were reinvested) as well as any spin-offs or discounted capital raisings offered to shareholders. Move Logistics Group's TSR of 60% for the 1 year exceeded its share price return, because it has paid dividends.

A Different Perspective

Pleasingly, Move Logistics Group's total shareholder return last year was 60%. That's better than the annualized TSR of 7% over the last three years. Given the track record of solid returns over varying time frames, it might be worth putting Move Logistics Group on your watchlist. While it is well worth considering the different impacts that market conditions can have on the share price, there are other factors that are even more important. Consider for instance, the ever-present spectre of investment risk. We've identified 4 warning signs with Move Logistics Group (at least 1 which shouldn't be ignored) , and understanding them should be part of your investment process.

Move Logistics Group is not the only stock that insiders are buying. For those who like to find winning investments this free list of growing companies with recent insider purchasing, could be just the ticket.
