The automotive industry has come up against some turbulent headwinds over the last few years. There’s been the growing anti-diesel movement, staying ahead of the market with electric vehicle developments in the pipeline, all the while US-induced trade wars have been kicking off.

“Next year will see further industry disruption with increased investment in electric car technology and the infrastructure to support them,” said Ashley Peters, managing director of UK-based motor trade insurers Staveley Head in a statement.

“There’ll also be additional government initiatives supporting the drives to create a low carbon economy and banning sales of new petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2040.”

Amid the changing landscape for car-consumer trends, Staveley Head created an interactive chart to see how much the world’s biggest car brands earn every second, minute, and hour. The results gave an interesting snapshot into which firms are dominating the market and are in the fast lane for profits.

“We may therefore see a shift in leadership, with brands like Renault, Nissan and Tesla having been early adopters in electric car technology development, along with Jaguar Landrover and BMW, which have significantly increased their R&D in this area,” added Peters.

“The automotive market has seen a lot of change in recent years, but one thing is clear – they still make a lot of money. It’s interesting to see how much revenue and profit is made every second for each of these brands, especially when comparing everyday cars to luxury models.”

The chart, which can see below, makes interesting reading. For example, every second:

  • Toyota (TM) makes $563.92 (£430.10)

  • Ford (F) makes $227.05

  • Volkswagen (VOW.DE) makes $119.73

  • Renault (RNL.F) makes $138.04

  • Ferrari (RACE) makes $28.10
