There are a host of pricey products on supermarket shelves claiming to rid your home of stubborn stains.

But one mother has revealed an affordable item already sitting in your bathroom cabinet that does the trick.

In a post on TikTok, user @mama_mila_ shared three ways that shaving cream could be enlisted to clean different fabrics.

First, the video sees her demonstrate how to "spot clean" a rug or carpet by squirting the product onto the offending area and rubbing it in with a cloth.

Next, she takes viewers through how shaving cream can remove spilt red wine from a white T-shirt.

To do this, Mila explains, you need to apply it once again to the dirty area and rub it in with the cloth, but you also need to do two additional steps – wait for it to sink in and then put it through the washing machine.

Finally, she reveals how shaving cream can gently get marks out of suede.

For this scenario, the mum explains: "Apply, let it settle and wipe with a damp cloth."

Captioning the clips, she wrote: "The miracle stain remover you didn't know you had."

The reason why shaving cream helps gently break down a variety of fabric stains is thanks to its combination of soap and moisturising ingredients.

Mila's video has been viewed more than 46,000 times, with over 2,000 users leaving 'likes'.

One person commented "brilliant", while another – amazed by the revelations – wrote, "wait what".

It comes after a woman shared an amazing trick, using another unlikely beauty product, for saving your sofa if your child has got creative with a biro.

Leisl Elizabeth, who runs the TikTok account @cleanfreak_cleaningco, revealed that all you need is some hairspray.

In a video, she can be seen applying the product directly to the pen marks, before allowing it to sink in.

For the final step, she enlists a soft cloth to buff away the stain in circular motions.
