A murder investigation has been launched after a woman was found dead in a flat on a leafy west London street.

The victim, believed to be aged in her 40s, lived in a basement apartment on Castlebar Road, Ealing.

Builder Jack Smith who is working next door said: “The women who died was very glamorous and well dressed. She lived there with her partner I think.”

He added: “When the police arrived there were loads of them. They wouldn’t tell us what had happened. It was obviously something big though.”

Police were called at 3.45pm on Monday, February 22, to reports of an unresponsive woman at a residential property.

A woman was pronounced dead at the scene near Ealing Common but has not yet been formally identified.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course.

A man, aged in his 40s, was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody at a west London police station.

Homicide detectives from the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime South are leading the investigation.

Enquiries into the circumstances remain ongoing and a crime scene remains in place.
