#MyHomeMyStyle: 'Lived around the world; but there's no place like home!'

Images: Courtesy the homeowner, Nausheen, who lives with her two sons and husband in Toronto, Canada.

I have grown up for most part in Kolkata, India. However, I have also lived in Dehradun, Trivandrum, Bangalore, Dubai, Sharjah, Jeddah and now Toronto!

My home is a very essential part of my life and I love setting it up. Luckily for me, my husband and two boys are not really interested in how the house looks which gives me freedom to experiment with whatever I like.

Our home in Toronto is earthy and has a lot of wood colours and finish. We live in a three bedroom condominium and the 1800 sq-ft apartment gives plenty of space for the four of us.

Because the winters in Canada are harsh and time is mostly spent indoors, we made sure we have these special corners where we feel comfortable. We have kept bright white lights in all the bedrooms, especially required during the short winter days.

We have always loved having guests and friends over at our place — during the lockdown, we have really missed it. I hope that we will be back to having them over once again very soon!

Here’s a glimpse into my home.

I wanted my living room to be tones of grey and accent it with a yellow. I especially love the yellow cushions I got custom made with some famous Bollywood dialogues and inspirational quotes.

The living room has souvenirs from our travels around the world on the walls, but my favourite corner is that little Indian seating I created with items I handpicked on our Jaipur trip. It is my "home away from home" corner!

The two shelves on either sides of the TV have all the souvenirs from the 54 different places we have visited! It is a small reflection of our passion to travel.

DDLJ much? I have a love for bells! Anywhere we go I make sure I pick up a bell to add to my collection.

Since the dining area in the house had no natural lighting, I decided on a big, low hanging chandelier. The wall has a painting I made. The dining table is made of raw natural walnut wood.

This is a little Arab corner we set up in the house, reflecting our 15 years in the Middle East! None of us smoke shisha, it is a display piece and I love the camel seats turned into stools.

When you live with boys, bathroom rules are mandatory! I created these small posters myself and put them in an IKEA frame.

This is hands down my favourite piece of furniture at home! I love to keep all my accessories and jewellery organised in this cabinet.

Our balcony overlooks the city from the 11th floor. Perfect to have the evening tea.

In Canada, we can use the balcony only for 3-4 months of the year, and so we do sit out for most parts in these few summer months. Also trying to grow a small herb garden as the planting season has just started and is short lived for outdoor plants.

Yahoo Lifestyle India wants to help brighten up some of the gloom surrounding COVID-19 and the lockdown in India. As we spend more time at home, and put more effort into cleaning, fixing, rearranging and organising your home space, we ask our readers to share pictures of their beautiful home with us, in a new series called #MyHomeMyStyle.
