Nazem Kadri offers love and support after London terrorist attack against Muslim family
The horrific attack that took four lives on Sunday in London, Ontario hit close to home for one current NHL player.
Nazem Kadri, a forward for the Colorado Avalanche, grew up in the very city where the event Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is calling a “terrorist attack” took place, and is just one of the few Muslim players currently playing in the NHL.
Nathaniel Veltman, a 20-year-old man has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder in connection to what was a targeted attack against a Muslim family, hitting them with his truck and driving away.
Fayez Afzaal, a nine-year-old, was the lone survivor of Sunday's attack.
A GoFundMe has been created for the Afzaal family. In a statement from the family on the GoFundMe page, it was revealed that Fayez is in stable condition but remains in the hospital.
Kadri tweeted the following on Tuesday afternoon.
Heartbreaking watching my community of London being terrorized by such a senseless, cowardly act. We will continue to conquer racism together. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families 🙏🏽May love always be stronger than hate

Kadri also co-found the Hockey Diversity Alliance, a group of current and former players aiming to fight the historic racism throughout hockey.
The 30-year-old center played two full seasons as a member of the OHL’s London Knights as a prospect for the Toronto Maple Leafs, before being dealt to Colorado in 2019.
