Yahoo Finance NCAA March Madness betting: $224K on Abilene Christian among 5 huge bets on Monday's action
Major betting action is pouring in on the NCAA tournament ahead of Monday’s second-round slate.
On Monday morning, BetMGM reported five separate six-figure bets across five games. The largest of the bets is on the latest game of the day: No. 3 Kansas vs. No. 6 USC in the West Region. The bettor bought a half-point and nabbed the Jayhawks at +2 on Sunday. The bet? A whopping $360,000 at -120. Should the Jayhawks cover, the bettor would win $300,000.
As of Monday morning, it’s looking like a shrewd move as Kansas is now a one-point favorite at BetMGM after opening at +1.5. That’s three points of value for this bettor.
In the East Region, a $330,000 bet came in on No. 2 Alabama (-5) against No. 10 Maryland. It would win $300,000. Maryland upset UConn in the first round, while Alabama squeaked past Rick Pitino and Iona. Since that bet came in, the point spread shifted to Alabama -5.5.
One of the biggest upsets of the first round came when Abilene Christian, the No. 14 seed in the East Region, knocked off No. 3 Texas. With the win, Abilene Christian advanced to the second round, where it is again an underdog against No. 11 UCLA. One bettor is riding with the Wildcats and put in a $224,000 bet on Abilene Christian +5. The bet would win $204,000.
Again in the East Region, a bet of $168,300 came in on No. 4 Florida State (-1) against No. 5 Colorado. The bet would win $153,000.
The final six-figure bet at BetMGM for Monday is on the side of the Oregon Ducks. Oregon, which advanced to the Round of 32 after VCU was forced to withdraw due to COVID-19 issues, is the No. 7 seed in the West Region and a five-point underdog against No. 2 Iowa.
One bettor put down a $165,000 wager on Oregon +5. The bet would win $150,000.
The first three days of the tournament have been full of drama. What will Monday have in store?
