Showtime Renews ‘Couples Therapy’ for 2-Part Third Season (TV News Roundup)

Showtime has renewed “Couples Therapy” for a two-part third season next year. The docuseries from Josh Kriegman, Elyse Steinberg and Eli Despres follows psychoanalyst Dr. Orna Guralnik as she helps real-life couples in real-life therapy sessions. There will be fresh sets of couples in each installment of Season 3.

“Couples Therapy” is produced by Edgeline Films for Showtime. Kriegman, Steinberg and Despres executive produce, while Carly Hugo and Matt Parker serve as producers. Season 2 just wrapped on Showtime.

Netflix will bow adult animated comedy series “Q-Force” on Sept. 2, with a voice cast including Sean Hayes, Gary Cole, David Harbour, Patti Harrison, Laurie Metcalf, Matt Rogers, Wanda Sykes and Gabe Liedman. The 10-episode order follows Steve Maryweather, a once-celebrated member of the American Intelligence Agency (AIA) who was sent to West Hollywood to vanish into obscurity after coming out as gay. Instead, Agent Mary assembles Q-Force, a misfit squad of LGBTQ+ geniuses including Deb, Twink and Stat, and they begin solving a case on their own terms. After gaining reluctant approval from the AIA, they now must put up with a new member of the squad: straight-guy Agent Buck. “Q-Force” is produced by Universal Television in association with Hazy Mills, Fremulon and 3 Arts Entertainment. FIRST LOOKS

IMDb TV released a trailer for “Luke Bryan: My Dirt Road Diary,” premiering on Aug. 6. The five-part docuseries, which features home videos, interviews and personal footage, follows the award-winning country star as he experiences triumphs and tragedies on the road to success. “Luke Bryan: My Dirt Road Diary” is executive produced by Bryan, Kerri Edwards and Ryan Schmidt in association with Endeavor Content and Peanut Mountain Productions.

EXECUTIVE NEWS

Litton Entertainment appointed Jeffrey Wank as VP of development, Variety has exclusively learned. The hiring comes as the company escalates its programming reach into original productions, including non-scripted, scripted, short- and long-form content for all platforms. Wank brings with him 15 years of experience as a television development executive, most recently serving as VP and then senior VP of development for Brain Graden Media for six years.

HONORS

The North Fork TV Festival announced Emmy- and Grammy-winning talent Christopher Jackson will be this year’s Ambassador to the Arts recipient. The Broadway veteran’s credits include “Holler if Ya Hear Me, After Midnight,” “The Bronx Bombers,” In the Heights,” “Memphis” and “The Lion King.” He has had a continued relationship with playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda, including originating the role of George Washington in “Hamilton” and appearing in “We Are Freestyle Love Supreme.” In 2011, Jackson won an Emmy for “What I Am,” an original song he co-wrote for “Sesame Street” with Bill Sherman. The formal dinner ceremony will occur during the festival on Aug. 5 at American Beech in Greenport, N.Y.
