Queen Charlotte fans, this news is set to be the talk of the season! While Netflix are going full steam ahead with confirmation of a second, third and fourth Bridgerton, Shondaland and Netflix has also announced their plans for a new limited series based on one of our favourite characters, Queen Charlotte.
In a statement, Netflix confirmed the Bridgerton spin-off in the works will focus on 'the rise and love life of a young Queen Charlotte' and Shonda Rhimes will write the series and serve as executive producer alongside Betsy Beers and Tom Verica.
'Many viewers had never known the story of Queen Charlotte before Bridgerton brought her to the world, and I’m thrilled this new series will further expand her story and the world of Bridgerton', Netflix's Head of Global TV, Bela Bajaria revealed.
She added: 'Shonda and her team are thoughtfully building out the Bridgerton universe so they can keep delivering for the fans with the same quality and style they love'.
Exciting stuff! We don't have a title or release date yet, but a tweet from the Netflix account unveiled a few more details. As well as following the iconic Queen Charlotte, who was played by Golda Rosheuvel in season 1, the prequel will also give us a glimpse into the young life of Lady Violet Bridgerton, played by Ruth Gemmell, and Lady Danbury, played by Adjoa Andoh.
Shonda also revealed some updates to the original series, announcing that Jess Brownell will take over from Chris Van Dusen as Bridgerton’s showrunner for seasons 3 and 4.
Season 2 of the beloved Netflix show is set to focus more on the life of Anthony Bridgerton, played by Jonathan Bailey. Sooo much Bridgerton goodness to look forward to!
