Netflix series Grand Army is the latest to be cancelled after just one season.

Loosely adapted from Katie Cappiello's work Slut: The Play, this teen drama orbited around five students at the largest public high school in Brooklyn: Odessa A'zion's Joey, Odley Jean's Dom, Amir Bageria's Sid, Maliq Johnson's Jayson and Amalia Yoo's Leila.

Following the first season's nine episodes, which dropped last autumn, Variety has now confirmed the show's axing.

Back in December, Johnson spoke exclusively to Digital Spy about the storyline possibilities going forward saying: "I feel like we would probably see Owen again, because Jayson just won't let their relationship go down the gutter."

He also went on to credit the show for the nuance of its relationships, such as Jayson and Owen's, noting: "We can still smoke and be educated. We can play an instrument, we can still have fun with our friends and we can be morally sound.

"It also shows that kids are not that different from adults. Adults think that because they are older that they automatically know more and have been through more, but Grand Army shows that you can be a teenager and still be going through the same mental crisis as an adult... if not worse."

Grand Army season 1 is available to stream on Netflix.
