Netflix confirms Sex Education will be back for season 4

Netflix has confirmed that Sex Education will be returning for season 4.

The announcement comes just one week after season 3 launched on the streaming service. Gillian Anderson, who plays sex therapist Jean and mum to the show's lead Otis (Asa Butterfield), also confirmed that the teen comedy-drama was coming back by sharing a photo of herself on set with co-stars Butterfield, Alister Petrie, Mikael Persbrandt and Patricia Allison.

The actress – who recently won an Emmy for her role in The Crown – added the caption: 'I guess we'll be seeing you for S4!!'

Season 3 features Otis having casual sex, best friend Eric, played by Ncuti Gatwa, going official with boyfriend Adam (Vigil's Connor Swindells), and Jean expecting a baby.

Jemima Kirke made her debut as Hope, new headteacher at Moordale High, while Jackson (Kedar Williams-Stirling) developed a new crush.

Gatwa celebrated the show returning for a fourth season on a night out with cast members Emma Mackey (who plays Maeve), Kedar Williams-Stirling (Jackson), Dua Selah (who stars as Cal), Bridgerton's Simone Ashley ( who plays Olivia), and Chinenye Ezeudu (Vivienne).

'A summer bubble (Missing some very important faces) but a summer bubble all the same,' Gatwa wrote in the caption.

The cast of season three also includes Chaneil Kular, Mimi Keene, Tanya Reynolds, Mikael Persbrandt, Patricia Allison, Sami Outalbali, Anne-Marie Duff, George Robinson, Alistair Petrie, Samantha Spiro, Rakhee Thakrar, Jason Isaacs, Dua Saleh and Jim Howick.

Sex Education season 4 will launch on Netflix next year.
