Netflix has a new "scare factor matrix" to help you figure out which horror movies you can handle

The Halloween season can be hard for those of us who are into scary movies but aren’t necessarily down for all types of frights. How do we know if something is just the right amount of scary without giving us nightmares? Obviously, if you’re a total scaredy cat, you’re probably better off with Freeform’s 31 Nights of Halloween. But if you’re looking to branch out, Netflix totally has your back.

Netflix’s new “scare factor matrix” is here to save the day, organizing the streaming service’s classic movies and new original movies and series by exactly the kind of scary you might be looking for.

Into the supernatural? Try Chilling Adventures of Sabrina or Castlevania, starting October 26th. Want something that’s realistic and terrifying? Try Malevolent, which starts streaming October 5th. Need something that’s simply enchanting? Watch The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell, starting October 12th. And if you want something that’s realistic, terrifying, enchanting, and supernatural? The Haunting of Hill House is perfect for you, which begins streaming on October 12th.

And if your favorite way of getting into the Halloween mood has everything to do with watching spooky stuff, there’s a lot to look forward to this month. The Shining is already available for streaming if you’re into classic scares, and tons of new series and shows are on the way, too. On October 5th, Malevolent premieres, a movie about a brother-sister team that scams people into thinking they can talk to the dead. And on October 12th, Apostle hits Netflix, starring Dan Stevens as a man who is fighting to get his sister back from a religious cult.

Later this month, you can look forward to Haunted, a series that gives a “chilling glimpse into the first-person accounts from people who have witnessed horrifying, peculiar, extraordinary supernatural events and other unexplained phenomenons that continue to haunt them.” Sound right up your alley? That one premieres October 19th. And of course, we are dying for the new take on Sabrina, too.

If you find yourself bored this month, don’t worry—you can always scare yourself silly. Can we get a Scare Matrix for every horror film out there?
