New York senators Schumer and Gillibrand call on Cuomo to resign
Sen. Chuck Schumer and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, both New York Democrats, issued a joint statement Friday calling on New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to resign.
“Confronting and overcoming the COVID crisis requires sure and steady leadership. We commend the brave actions of the individuals who have come forward with serious allegations of abuse and misconduct,” the two senators said in their statement. “Due to the multiple, credible sexual harassment and misconduct allegations, it is clear that Governor Cuomo has lost the confidence of his governing partners and the people of New York. Governor Cuomo should resign.”
Moments later, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries released his own statement, which, while stopping short of calling for Cuomo’s resignation, turned up the pressure on him to step down.

Earlier on Friday more than 10 members of New York's Democratic delegation in the U.S. House of Representatives cited the same allegations of sexual misconduct and called for Cuomo to step down.
“We believe these women, we believe the reporting, we believe the Attorney General, and we believe the fifty-five members of the New York State legislature ... who have concluded that Governor Cuomo can no longer effectively lead in the face of so many challenges,” the group of Democratic House members, which included Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Jerry Nadler, said in a Friday statement.
In a briefing on New York's efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, Cuomo again denied the claims of inappropriate sexual behavior leveled at him by multiple women.
“Women have a right to come forward and be heard,” Cuomo said. “But there is still a question of the truth. I did not do what has been alleged, period.”
