Newcastle 2-3 Tottenham LIVE! Premier League result, match stream and latest updates today

Newcastle vs Tottenham LIVE!

Tottenham visit St James’ Park as Newcastle United begin their new era under Saudi Arabian owners.

A carnival atmosphere is expected as Newcastle fans celebrate the departure of Mike Ashley on what promises to be a testing afternoon for Spurs on Tyneside.

New Newcastle part owner Amanda Staveley, the public face of the consortium led by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, said this week the club hoped to win a major trophy inside five years but has warned change will not happen overnight.

Despite intense speculation this week regarding his future, Steve Bruce remains in charge and will be in the dugout for his 1,000th game as a manager.

Tottenham’s preparations for their trip to the north-east have been disrupted after two of their players tested positive for Covid, while Harry Kane will be hoping to spark into form.

FT: Newcastle 2-3 Tottenham

18:47 , Malik Ouzia

A scoreline that doesn’t really reflect Spurs’ dominance. They leave the north-east with all three points.

GOAL! Newcastle 2-3 Tottenham | Eric Dier (OG) 89’

18:41 , Malik Ouzia

They couldn’t, could they?!

This is a freak own goal, a clanger from Dier, who directs past Lloris with no Newcastle player near him.

There’ll be four added minutes...

RED CARD!

18:35 , Malik Ouzia

83 mins: Oh dear. Jonjo Shelvey had been booked a few minutes ago for a rash kick out at Ndombele and now he’s shown a second yellow for a desperate, late challenge on Reguilon.

It’s as nailed on a sending off as you can ever wish to see.

18:34 , Malik Ouzia

81 mins: Tottenham had a penalty appeal turned down at one end after a lengthy VAR check for handball against Matt Ritchie.

Now Newcastle want one at the other end, which is strange because Ryan Fraser’s just lashed the ball into Eric Dier’s face.

18:29 , Malik Ouzia

76 mins: Son’s set-piece delivery today has been absolutely first-class.

Newcastle need two goals but that doesn’t stop Steve Bruce from deciding 75 minutes is enough for Callum Wilson on his return. Jacob Murphy and Ryan Fraser are on, with Joe Willock the other man to make way.

18:22 , Malik Ouzia

69 mins: Ndombele is properly enjoying himself here. He surges through the centre of the Toon midfield, exchanging passes first with Son and then with Kane before some last-ditch defending denies him a shooting chance.

18:16 , Malik Ouzia

64 mins: Emerson Royal is next in the book for a cynical tug on Saint-Maximin having been spun by him. It’s not enough to stop the Newcastle man anyway, as he charges on and feeds Willock but the former Arsenal man goes down too easily looking for a penalty as Romero comes across.

Dan Kilpatrick is at St. James’ Park

18:13 , Malik Ouzia

Spurs look much more confident than almost at any point this season as they search for the fourth. Ndombele, who has looked like a proper No.10 this afternoon, goes close again. Another goal would surely kill off the Toon.

18:12 , Malik Ouzia

60 mins: Jonjo Shelvey in place of Sean Longstaff as Steve Bruce looks for a bit of control. He immediately gives the ball away.

18:12 , Malik Ouzia

59 mins: Newcastle have been really poor since half-time. They just can’t make anything stick to ease the pressure, typified by an early long ball that Wilson hasn’t a prayer of latching on to that just gifts Spurs possession again.

As they break, Kane switches the play to Ndombele, who dips inside and unleashes a rocket that is rising as it whistles wide of the far corner.

18:06 , Malik Ouzia

54 mins: I’m surprised it’s taken until now, but here’s our first audible chorus of “sacked in the morning” from the away end towards Steve Bruce.

On the pitch, Clark is in the book for a cynical chop on Harry Kane.

18:03 , Malik Ouzia

51 mins: It’s one-way traffic at the moment and Reguilon is enjoying more and more freedom down the left flank. A Spurs fourth feels infinitely more likely than a Newcastle second.

18:00 , Malik Ouzia

48 mins: The atmosphere could hardly be more different to the one which heralded the start of the first-half. Things feel very subdued.

KICK-OFF!

17:57 , Malik Ouzia

Once again, the teams are back out. The second-half is up and running...

Here’s Harry Kane’s first league goal of the season...

There was a nice reception for Sergio Reguilon from the Newcastle fans when the players re-emerged to restart the game after the left-back’s role in getting the game paused.

Spurs made a terrible start before they seemed to realise they’re playing relegation threatened Newcastle and woke up. Three moments of quality are the difference at the interval and could be enough to burst Newcastle’s bubble for today. But this game is not over, particularly given how shaky Romero and Royal have looked.

HT: Newcastle 1-3 Tottenham

17:43 , Malik Ouzia

An eventful half in so many ways. At the end of it, Tottenham are in command.

GOAL! Newcastle 1-3 Tottenham | Heung-min Son 45+3'

17:37 , Malik Ouzia

Brilliantly worked goal!

Lucas is heavily involved again before Kane is slipped in on the right and he powers across the face of goal for Son to slide in and give Spurs a two-goal cushion.

17:33 , Malik Ouzia

The teams are now back out and going through a short warm-up before the game restarts.

The fan in question has been stabilised and is being taken to hospital. Fingers crossed for the best.

17:29 , Malik Ouzia

Full credit to both sets of players there. Reguilon was very quick to alert the referee to the situation, while Eric Dier was immediately signalling to the dugouts that a defibrillator was needed.

Stadium announcer says players will be coming out to resume the final seven minutes of the first half after a short warm-up. The break is not half-time.

17:16 , Malik Ouzia

45+2 mins: In fact, the players are being taken off completely now, back into the dressing rooms. Looks like the match has been suspended for now.

17:16 , Malik Ouzia

45+1 mins: The stadium announcer has just confirmed a “medical emergency in the East Stand”. Seven added minutes have been signalled, but we’re not back underway yet.

Dan Kilpatrick is at St. James’ Park

17:14 , Malik Ouzia

17:12 , Malik Ouzia

41 mins: This is very worrying. It would appear that there’s some sort of medical emergency in the crowd.

Sergio Reguilon was signalling to the referee and eventually all of the players are gesturing at the subs bench for the medical staff to rush over. One dashes across the pitch with what looks life a defibrillator and for now the players have been taken off.

17:09 , Malik Ouzia

39 mins: Off the bar!

Son, not for the first time this afternoon, bends in a wonderful corner and Lucas is the man to meet it, guiding a header onto the woodwork.

17:07 , Malik Ouzia

37 mins: Oliver Skipp’s made an excellent start to the game, shielding the Spurs back four with a couple of crucial interventions. Newcastle do look a threat on the break, especially when Saint-Maximin gets on the ball.

17:01 , Malik Ouzia

31 mins: That’s more like it. Joelinton plays an excellent reverse pass into Wilson, who holds it up and waits for the run of Saint-Maximin before steering across the six-yard box but Reguilon has tracked really well to ease the Newcastle man out of it.

16:59 , Malik Ouzia

29 mins: Newcastle really haven’t offered a great deal since taking that early lead and the atmosphere has become rather subdued.

Spurs are well on top.

Dan Kilpatrick at St. James’ Park...

16:56 , Malik Ouzia

That was vintage Kane – a well-timed run in behind and a deft finish made to look easy. Could that be the moment to kickstart his – and Tottenham’s – season?

GOAL! Newcastle 1-2 Tottenham | Harry Kane 22’

16:53 , Malik Ouzia

The wait is over!

Kane looked a little sheepish as he finished the chance, expecting the flag, but it’s a good job he did. Manquillo is a little deeper than the rest of the backline on the opposite flank and he’s just about keeping Kane onside.

Terrific ball from Hojbjerg to get him in behind as well.

DISALLOWED!

16:52 , Malik Ouzia

22 mins: It briefly looks as if Harry Kane’s wait for a first Premier League goal of the season is over as he lifts cutely over Darlow and into the net but the flag is raised.

VAR is double-checking though and it looks closer than in real-time...

Dan Kilpatrick is at St. James’ Park...

16:51 , Malik Ouzia

Another reminder of Ndombele’s brilliance. He has been the only bright spark for Spurs so far and was was a superb finish. They need to get him on the ball as much as possible.

GOAL! Newcastle 1-1 Tottenham | Tanguy Ndombele 17'

16:47 , Malik Ouzia

There’s the leveller!

This is a cracking finish. Reguilon feeds Ndombele on the edge of the box and he uses a defender as a guide to steer the ball high into the far corner. Great goal.

16:45 , Malik Ouzia

15 mins: What a waste.

Son’s lovely touch finds Ndombele, who spreads wide to Moura and the Brazilian has men to aim at in the box but leathers it over everyone and out of play for a Newcastle throw-in on the opposite flank.

16:41 , Malik Ouzia

11 mins: No real response so far from Spurs. Lucas Moura is trying to be the driving force but he’s well chased back by Joelinton on the edge of his own box.

Dan Kilpatrick is at St. James’ Park...

16:39 , Malik Ouzia

Spurs looked totally unprepared for Newcastle flying out of the blocks, which felt inevitable given the occasion and atmosphere. The whole visiting defence was flat-footed as Manquillo crossed for Wilson to open the scoring.

16:37 , Malik Ouzia

7 mins: Nuno’s message to his side would have been to keep things tight, try and quieten this crowd, give them nothing to feed off. Fair to say all that’s gone out of the window.

GOAL! Newcastle 1-0 Tottenham | Callum Wilson 2'

16:32 , Malik Ouzia

Lift-off!

There are dream starts, and then there’s this. Manquillo darts down the right and delivers for Wilson, who gets across his man to head home inside 120 seconds!

KICK-OFF!

16:30 , Malik Ouzia

We are underway...

16:27 , Malik Ouzia

Yasir al-Rumayyan, the club’s new chairman, is in the crowd alongside Amada Staveley, beaming from ear to ear at the incredible noise as Newcastle walk out. Ant and Dec are knocking about too, obviously.

Ten minutes to go...

16:21 , Malik Ouzia

St. James’ Park is packed, a terrific atmosphere being whipped up. Almost showtime...

Bruce celebrates 1,000th game

16:15 , Malik Ouzia

The under pressure Steve Bruce, taking charge of his 1,000th game as a manager, is able to welcome star striker Callum Wilson back after a four-game injury absence, and there is a start too for fit-again skipper Jamaal Lascelles as Federico Fernandez and Miguel Almiron make way.

Almiron, who had been away with Paraguay, is not even on the bench for the first fixture under the Tyneside club’s new owners, but there is a seat for midfielder Jonjo Shelvey, whose last first-team appearance came in the opening game of the campaign.

Spurs unchanged

16:01 , Malik Ouzia

Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo has named an unchanged side with his South American internationals all having recovered from their gruelling journeys back to England.

That means starts for Cristian Romero and Emerson Royal as well as Son, while Davinson Sanchez and Giovani Lo Celso were included among the substitutes.

Covid false alarm

15:40 , Malik Ouzia

Tottenham have in the last half-an-hour issued a statement clarifying their Covid situation, revealing that the two players - still unnamed - who were reported to have tested positive are available after all because those results have been deemed false positives.

We should have all the confirmed team news from St. James’ Park in around five minutes’ time...

Standard Sport prediction

15:14 , Malik Ouzia

Despite the feel-good factor sweeping through Tyneside it is hard to imagine an immediate turn in fortunes.

This is still the same team managed by the same coaching staff who have struggled so far and it is unlikely they’ll be able to turn things around against a stronger opponent.

As for Spurs, a game against Newcastle could prove a banana skin, particularly if the Georgie faithful can rouse their team to greater heights. That is a big if, because even an improved showing from the men in black and white might not be enough.

Newcastle 1-2 Tottenham.

Newcastle team news

15:06 , Malik Ouzia

Newcastle United are boosted by the return of Callum Wilson, who has missed the past four games with a thigh issue. Jamaal Lascelles, Joe Willock and Jonjo Shelvey are also available following injury.

Tottenham team news

14:58 , Malik Ouzia

Tottenham’s preparations have been disrupted after two of their players tested positive for Covid. The two players, who have not been named, must now isolate for ten days and will also miss matches against Vitesse Arnhem and West Ham next week.

Nuno Espirito Santo must also decide on the fitness of four players who returned from international duty in South America on Friday - Giovani Lo Celso, Cristian Romero, Davinson Sanchez and Emerson Royal.

Steven Bergwijn could return to the squad. The forward, who has started this season well, has not played since September 16 due to an ankle issue.

The start of a new era on Tyneside...

14:42 , Malik Ouzia

A carnival atmosphere is expected at St. James’ Park this afternoon as Newcastle return to action for the first time since the club’s Saudi takeover was confirmed, marking the end of the Mike Ashley era.

I think we can expect to see plenty of this sort of thing this afternoon...
