A mostly white jury is nearly set for the trial of a suburban Minneapolis police officer charged in Daunte Wright's shooting death, as only two alternates remain to be chosen before opening statements next week. Kim Potter, 49, is charged with first- and second-degree manslaughter in the April 11 shooting of Wright, a 20-year-old Black motorist, following a traffic stop in the Minneapolis suburb of Brooklyn Center. Potter, who is white, has said she meant to use her Taser on Wright after he pulled away from officers while they were trying to arrest him, but that she drew her handgun by mistake. Her body camera recorded the shooting.

The Saints gave the dual threat Hill his first start this season in hopes that he could help New Orleans end a four-game skid.

Australia, despite restrictions on international visitors, became the latest country on Friday to report community transmission of Omicron, a day after the coronavirus variant was found locally in five U.S. states. U.S. President Joe Biden warned on Thursday that infections will rise during the northern-hemisphere winter and the European Union's public health agency said Omicron could account for more than half of all infections in Europe within months.
Though their offense wasn't always great, the Cowboys handed New Orleans its fifth straight loss on Thursday night.

Japan's economy likely contracted at a faster-than-expected pace in the July-September quarter, a Reuters poll showed on Friday, as capital spending stalled among companies hit by supply constraints. Separate data is expected to show household spending posted an annual drop for the third straight month in October, though the fall was smaller than in the previous two months, a sign that consumer sentiment had improved as COVID-19 cases remained low. While pressures on domestic consumption are easing, next week's data suggests it may take time for Japan's economy to rebound even as policymakers have kept monetary policy loose and fiscal policy expansionary to help the pandemic recovery.

Didi ran afoul of Chinese authorities by pushing ahead with its $4.4 billion U.S. IPO in July despite being asked to put it on hold while a review of its data practices was conducted. The company is already facing class action lawsuit in the US, and we think Didi will buy back its shares at the same IPO price of US$14 per share. "Beijing is also sending a warning to the entire internet sector in China to be ready to face more regulations and is likely to keep foreign investors away from Chinese tech stocks for some time."

China and the United States are tussling over President Joe Biden’s upcoming democracy summit, which the ruling Communist Party sees as a challenge to its authoritarian ways. The party maintains China has its own form of democracy and plans to issue a report titled “China: Democracy that Works” on Saturday, five days before the opening of Biden's two-day virtual meeting with about 110 other governments. The White House pushed back Thursday against Chinese criticism of Biden's “Summit for Democracy,” after a senior Chinese official said that it divides countries and points fingers at others.

Compound exercises can be done with extra weight, like dumbbells and barbells (here's a list of weighted compound exercises), or you can simply use your bodyweight, no equipment necessary. Compound bodyweight exercises are a double whammy: accessible and efficient, so you can work as many muscles as possible in each move. Note that this list of compound bodyweight exercises is not a workout, and I don't advise doing these exercises all in one routine.

South Korea announced on Friday that people visiting restaurants and cinemas and other public spaces will have to show vaccine passes, amid a surge in COVID-19 infections and five confirmed cases of the Omicron variant. The government also re-imposed limits on private gatherings, which had been recently relaxed, as the country posted record numbers of new cases this week. Desperate to fend off the Omicron variant, authorities halted quarantine exemptions on Thursday for fully vaccinated inbound travellers and made a 10-day quarantine mandatory.
