White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough next week will moderate a discussion with transportation entrepreneur Robin Chase and software futurist Martin Ford in a conversation that will be broadcast on Facebook Live by Business Insider.
The discussion will focus on the future of automation and artificial intelligence — industrial robotics, self-driving cars, and more — and their effects on daily life and public policy.
Business Insider, along with Futurism, will broadcast the dialogue, which will take place on July 5 at 1:15 p.m. ET. You'll be able to watch it on our Facebook page.

"From manufacturing robots to driverless cars, advances in automation and artificial intelligence are more and more present in our daily lives. As they become more prevalent, how will these technologies impact our society, including many of the jobs that are vital to the American economy? There's no shortage of predictions. Depending on who's talking, it will be the source of tremendous opportunity or a challenge to even our most basic institutions. In any event, it's no longer just the stuff of science fiction. Our growing reliance on automation implies some big public policy questions. Some that we're already grappling with, and others we'll need to tackle in the coming years. We want to shed a light on how we're approaching some of those questions at the White House and reconciling differing perspectives to help understand how to move forward together.

Ford, a Silicon Valley executive, is the author of "Rise of the Robots: Technology and the Threat of a Jobless Future." Chase, a transportation entrepreneur, is a cofounder and the former CEO of Zipcar.
