Neymar Signs New Five-Year Barcelona Deal

Neymar Signs New Five-Year Barcelona Deal

Neymar has signed a new contract with Barcelona until June 2021 - and the buy-out clause for the last three years of the deal has been set at £210m.

Neymar - who had two years left on his previous deal - had been linked with a host of top European clubs, with reports in the Spanish media on Thursday suggesting Manchester United were launching a "total offensive" to sign him.

But the 24-year-old has agreed a new deal, with the buy-out clause fixed at around £167m for the first year of his new contract, £185m for the second and £210m for the remaining three years.

Neymar tweeted his happiness on Thursday night: "Very happy to continue living that dream! Long live Barca! Long live Catalonia!"

Neymar completed his third year at Barca in 2015-16 and scored 31 goals in 49 appearances to help the club win La Liga and the Copa del Rey. He has scored 85 goals in 141 games altogether for the club.

He did not play at the Copa America last month in order to rest but is currently in Brazil and will compete at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in August.

Club president Josep Maria Bartomeu earlier confirmed the Brazil forward did not want to leave - and the club want him to stay.
