NFL's first kid-friendly broadcast will feature SpongeBob and lots of slime
If you’re an NFL fan with kids, you may want to mark Jan. 10, 2021 on your calendar. That’s the day they’ll be able to watch an NFL broadcast that’s all about them.
CBS and Nickelodeon released details about their first-ever kid-focused NFL broadcast on Tuesday, and they’re incredible. Designed specifically to appeal to kids and keep them engaged during one of the NFL’s wild-card games, the Nickelodeon broadcast will feature amazing effects like:
End zones with special graphics that spray virtual green slime on players who score touchdowns;
Googly eyes or other Snapchat filter effects superimposed onto the faces of players who celebrate or mug for the camera;
Special graphics and visual effects during plays;
SpongeBob’s face virtually inserted between the goal posts during field goals;
A green slime trail behind the football.
CBS Sports released a sizzle reel on Tuesday so you can get a taste of this brilliant madness.
SpongeBob, Slime, and Googly Eyes, @NFLonCBS and @Nickelodeon will present the NFL like you’ve NEVER seen it before on Wild Card Weekend.

There will also be a special preshow, “The SpongeBob SportsPants Countdown Special,” hosted by Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller. Miller will be counting down SpongeBob’s best sports moments, something he probably never imagined he’d be doing.
Not enough SpongeBob yet? Don’t worry, there’s more! The special halftime show will feature a sneak peek of the upcoming animated series “Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years,” which is about 10-year-old SpongeBob and his friends at summer camp.
“Our game plan is to make sure the NFL Wild Card Game on Nickelodeon definitely lives up to its name by infusing the telecast with Nick’s sensibility of surprise and fun at almost every turn,” said Brian Robbins, President of ViacomCBS Kids & Family Entertainment, in a press release.
If NFL players with Snapchat googly eyes getting covered in virtual slime isn’t “surprise and fun,” then nothing is.
