The Vancouver Canucks have acquired defenseman Ethan Bear and forward Lane Pederson from the Carolina Hurricanes for a 2023 fifth round pick, the team announced on Friday.

The Hurricanes are retaining 18 percent ($400,000) of Bear's $2.2-million salary in the deal.

The 25-year-old was reportedly being shopped around after failing to crack Carolina's lineup this season.

Bear was acquired by the Hurricanes from the Edmonton Oilers in July 2021, and signed a one-year extension with Carolina this past offseason.

In 190 career NHL games, the Regina, Sask., native has 13 goals and 34 assists for 47 points, while accumulating 77 penalty minutes. He was selected by the Oilers with the 124th overall pick of the 2015 NHL Draft.
