Canucks ownership reportedly courting Sedin twins for front-office roles
The Vancouver Canucks are reportedly looking to bring a pair of familiar faces back to the franchise.
Daniel and Henrik Sedin are in discussions with Canucks ownership regarding potential roles within the organization, according to Darren Dreger of TSN. The two, however, will not be assuming a top decision-making position, like general manager or president, Thomas Drance of The Athletic notes.
The Sedin twins’ agent, J.P. Barry, refused to comment on the recent reports, but did state that “these guys are the most prepared, hardest working people I’ve ever met. They would be assets in any role. Winners through and through,” per Rick Dhaliwal of The Athletic.
After pushing the Vegas Golden Knights to Game 7 in the second round of the NHL playoffs in the bubble last year, Vancouver has largely disappointed in 2020-21. The team currently owns a North Division worst 22-28-4 record and minus-35 goal differential. The squad did endure a brutal COVID-19 outbreak that has drastically altered its schedule, but the Canucks were sitting outside of a playoff spot even prior to its three-plus week pause.
Bringing in the Sedins, the star players from the franchise’s most recent glory days, could be greatly beneficial to the organization. Henrik and Daniel are first and second respectively in all-time Canucks scoring and each spent their 17-year NHL career entirely in Vancouver. The pair led the squad to a Stanley Cup appearance in 2011, although they lost to the Boston Bruins in seven games.
It certainly seems like Vancouver’s front office is about to see some pretty drastic changes this offseason.
