Co-founding her eponymous luxury clothing label back in 1991, Sydney-based Nicky Zimmermann is accredited for taking Australian fashion global.
Alongside her sister Simone, the duo combine ready-to-wear and swimwear with a luxe bohemian styling and counting the likes of Chrissy Teigen, Beyoncé, Kendall Jenner, Gigi and Bella Hadid among its celebrity fan base.
In the three decades since its inception, the brand has grown exponentially with boutiques around the world – most recently in Rome and Cannes - and with global stockists Net-A-Porter and MatchesFashion, the former of which launched with Zimmermann in its inaugural line-up.
The pieces are characterised with bright, bold batik prints that will form the basis of your dream beach wardrobe.
Fresh from the brand’s SS22 presentation, we caught up with Zimmermann to find out her Favourite Things.
What are you up to at the moment?
We’ve just shown our Spring 22 presentation and I’m working on the Fall 22 collection, which is starting to take shape. We’ve recently opened our first store in Rome, and Sydney has just emerged from lockdown. So, it’s an exciting time! The weather is warming up here so I’m spending more time outdoors going for walks and enjoying our beautiful beaches as we head into summer.
How would you describe your style and what are your wardrobe staples?
I like to dress for my mood - I might wear a beautiful feminine georgette dress for work one day and sharp tailored garments the next. My wardrobe staples are a mix of shirts to go with our denim and I always have an array of our Swim collection dresses on rotation.
What are your jewellery staples?
I’ve worn Maria Tash earrings for years – they’re delicate and pretty and tend go with whatever I’m wearing. I have a few special pieces from Cartier that I love and a watch from my husband that I cherish.
What is one item you can’t live without?
Having been in lockdown I’d have to say it’s been my iPad! I use it from the first thing in the morning to do an online Pilates class, to Zoom meetings with my team during the day and I might watch a movie on it in the evening.
What have you recently purchased for your home?
Some beautiful paintings by Australian artist Tom Polo – there’s a sense of humour to his artworks and his use of colour really appeals to my sensibilities.
How do you treat yourself?
I really love to go shopping! And it can be for anything from fashion to homewares or beauty products. I love to go out and roam the streets and explore and find something unique. Now that we are coming into Summer, I also really love being out on the water paddleboarding and enjoying the sunshine.
What’s your beauty routine?
I have always been interested in skincare. I don’t think I’ve ever gone to bed without cleansing my face and lathering on a beautiful moisturiser. I’m really enjoying Dr Barbara Sturm products – the moisturiser is super hydrating; the face mists are always at hand for a quick refresh throughout the day, and I like to use the masks if I’ve had a day at the beach. I always wear sunscreen and I love the simplicity of the Lanolips lip balm it’s something I use every day. For makeup I absolutely love Westman Atelier – the blush and foundation sticks are divine, and the packaging is beautiful.
