Olympic champion and Strictly Come Dancing star Nicola Adams will be the subject of a new film - which will chronicle the athlete's life.

Lioness: The Nicola Adams Story is being made by the same revered team who made the Alexander McQueen documentary McQueen. They've been working with the LGBT star closely on the film.

Nicola says she hopes her life on screen will inspire a new generation, and announced the news on her Instagram on Friday (26 February).

"I hope this documentary will help inspire young people to realise that whatever adversities life might throw at you, you can overcome them," she said.

"Sometimes it might feel as if the world is stacked against you, but through hard work, compassion and determination you can achieve your dreams."

The documentary is currently in production, and will follow Nicola growing up in Leeds, her boxing journey to become a gold-medal winning national hero, to her status as an out LGBT sports star.

Last year, Nicola was forced to withdraw from Strictly Come Dancing after she tested positive for coronavirus. She made history as one half of the show's first same sex couple, with professional dancer Katya Jones.

At the time, she said,"Hey guys! I’m absolutely devastated my Strictly journey has come to an end so soon. I had so much more to give and so many people to win this for!"

Having a film made about your life will help make up for some of that disappointment, we reckon.
