Nike Could Become A Player In An Unexpected Market: Eyewear

Nike Inc (NYSE: NKE) is looking to become a player in the designer eyewear market with its latest signature release. The world's largest athletic company is employing superstar endorser Kevin Durant to lead the push into eyewear after announcing the third installment of the KD signature eyewear collection.

The KD signature eyewear collection will feature colorways, patterns and designs previously seen in Durant’s signature shoe line. Nike Vision will be releasing 35 limited edition sets, a nod to Durant’s jersey number. The release is capitalizing on a trend for NBA stars to wear eyewear as a fashion staple, even when they aren’t necessarily ‘needed’ for vision.

The global eyewear market was valued at $102.66 billion in 2015. Adult styles of the KD signature eyewear collection will range from $275–$300, while kid styles will sell for $197.
