No coronavirus deaths in Scotland as Sturgeon set to review restrictions

·2-min read

Nicola Sturgeon said she will review Covid-19 restrictions in Scotland on Tuesday as the latest figures show no deaths from the virus and 200 new cases have been recorded in the past 24 hours.

The First Minister returned to work at Bute House in Edinburgh on Sunday after her election victory.

She told the BBC’s The Andrew Marr Show she would be meeting clinical advisers over the next day.

She added: “We have a Covid review on Tuesday where we will set out the final decisions for the next easing of restrictions scheduled for May 17.”

The country is due to move down from Level 3 to Level 2 of restrictions on that date.

Up to four people from two households can socialise indoors in a private home in Level 2.

Pubs can sell alcohol indoors and cinemas, theatres, comedy clubs, amusement arcades and bingo halls can open.

The coronavirus death toll in Scotland under the daily measure – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – remains at 7,661.

Registry offices are generally closed at weekends meaning cases and deaths can be lower.

The daily test positivity rate was 1.5%, up from 1.2% the previous day, according to figures released by the Scottish Government on Sunday.

So far, 2,897,975 people have received the first dose of a Covid-19 vaccination and 1,468,296 have received their second dose.

Only one death has been recorded in the last week and the test positivity rate has been consistently recorded at slightly above or below one.

But NHS Grampian has been battling an outbreak in Moray, offering Covid-19 vaccinations to those aged 18-39 and increasing testing in an effort to control a rise in cases.
