O’Brianna’s drag makeover makes her ‘feel like Beyoncé’

O’Brianna always looked to drag queens as a source of radiance but now she wants some of that light for herself.

In this week’s episode of Dragged, queens Marti Gould Cummings and Jasmine Rice LaBeija transformed O’Brianna into her alter ego, Val Vita.

“She’s thick and smooth, just like me,” O’Brianna said of her cheese-inspired persona.

O’Brianna wanted to become a drag queen because she feels confined by the cultural expectations placed on Black women.

“We live in a place where women have to dim their light,” O’Brianna said. “Women of color in particular have to dim their light. And when I see a drag queen all I see is radiance of light. I want to encompass that too.”

Marti and Jasmine combined O’Brianna’s love of Velveeta and message of empowerment when they selected her look.

“Bright, beautiful, glowing yellow,” Marti suggested.

“Let’s go monochromatic — all yellow,” Jasmine declared.

“I feel like Beyoncé,” O’Brianna said.

The queens picked out yellow open-toe heels, a hip-hugging yellow dress with golden embellishments and a yellow wig.

“I feel really bright. You know, I wanted to encompass the inner-shine of drag queens and I really feel like you guys went beyond that. I feel so, like unbelievably magical,” O’ Brianna added.

But Jasmine and Marti had some parting advice for her — O’Brianna never needed drag to shine.

“Do not ever dim your light for anyone in life, baby!” Jasmine said.

“Yes. Let it shine into the world, Miss Val Vita!” Marti said.
